As we reach the midpoint of the year, I am feeling especially grateful for the strength and commitment of our community.
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security’s Intimate Partner Violence Summit, where I listened to powerful presentations from the family of Gina Bryant and from Samantha Stites. Their stories were deeply moving and served as an important reminder of the impact that violence has on individuals, families, and entire communities. They also underscored a message that those of us in this work know well: believing survivors matters, and community action can save lives.
What stayed with me most was the collective commitment in the room. People came together not only to learn, but to consider how each of us can play a role in creating safer communities. I am grateful to live and work in a community that recognizes the importance of these conversations and is willing to come together to advance meaningful change.
For those interested in learning more, I encourage you to visit Journey for Gina (www.journey4gina.com) and BeeKeeper’s Advocacy (www.beekeepersadvocacy.org), two organizations working to raise awareness, support survivors, and inspire action to prevent intimate partner violence.
That spirit of community action is also reflected in an important milestone for SafeHouse Center. This year marks our 50th anniversary. For five decades, our work has been sustained by a community that believes survivors deserve safety, support, and dignity. While much has changed over the years, that commitment remains as strong as ever.
This October, we look forward to celebrating 50 years of impact, partnership, and hope. We hope you will join us as we honor our history, recognize the people who have made this work possible, and look ahead to the future we continue to build together.

This special evening will bring together the community that has shaped and sustained this work to celebrate fifty years of advocacy, support, and social change. Together, we will honor the people who helped build our history, recognize the impact of this work today, and invest in a future where survivors continue to have access to the support they need to thrive.

We are now accepting applications for our HYBRID Fall 2026 CORE training. Volunteer opportunities are IN-PERSON in ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN. Remote opportunities are not available.
We encourage you to attend one of our virtual volunteer information sessions Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. You may register for the date that works best for you.
SafeHouse Center’s training requires that direct service volunteers attend all core and specialized program sessions. Non-direct service volunteers participate in select sessions. Accommodations for absences are not available.
There are two categories of volunteer opportunities: Direct Services and Non-Direct Services.
Direct Service programs let volunteers work with survivors and their children. All roles include crisis intervention work.
Non-Direct Service programs allow volunteers to interact with community members and donors, without directly working with survivors.
Applications are currently being accepted. All application materials must be submitted by Friday, September 4.
Please review the volunteer position descriptions and expectations to determine which opportunity best fits your interests and availability.
To apply for a direct service volunteer position, please use the following link.

If you require a different training session or program, you are welcome to join the January 2027 waitlist.
