Volunteer Application Process

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM UPDATES

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, we have a rigorous and comprehensive application, screening, and training process for volunteers. We ask for a six consecutive month commitment for our volunteer opportunities after completing volunteer training. The Division of Victim Services requires all volunteers to complete our training program.

  1. Understand the 2 volunteer pathways and read descriptions of current opportunities
  2. Attend a Volunteer Information to learn more about the opportunities
  3. Complete the Volunteer Application
  4. The Volunteer & Intern Coordinator will reach out to you to schedule an interview after the
    background check process
  5. If it’s a good fit, the Volunteer & Intern Coordinator will invite you to join the training session

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for SafeHouse Center!

We recognize that this work can be difficult and is not for everyone. SafeHouse Center’s volunteer interview and screening process include engaging with those who are in alignment with our core values and our goal of working toward ending all forms of oppression- including Racism, Sexism, Classism, Homophobia, Gender, Religious, Economic, and Institutionalized. In addition, we expect our volunteers to have a shared understanding of the beliefs, philosophy, and causes of domestic violence and sexual assault. We provide the training necessary to help expand knowledge on domestic violence and sexual assault.

Please note that placement in the volunteer program is contingent upon many factors, including the application and interview process, successful completion of training, and adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in the position description, and our volunteer manual. Both placement and continued engagement of any volunteer is at the discretion of SafeHouse.

If not accepted into the program, community members will be provided with other local volunteer resources.

In order to begin volunteering please begin the application process below. Note: Please read about the ENTIRE process before beginning your application. This process can take several weeks, and we cannot accommodate all applicants due to capacity. We appreciate your patience during this process.

    1. Review our volunteer requirements and our confidentiality and security policy: new volunteers are required to make a six-month commitment.
    2. Choose which volunteer opportunity is the best fit for you and submit an application. For details about all of our volunteer programs and time requirements, please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page.
