Volunteer Application Process

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM UPDATES

  • Our volunteer programs are now accepting applications! Follow the instructions below to apply to become a volunteer.
  • The Winter 2022 training sessions will be held in February, and the Spring 2022 training sessions will be held in May. Read more details about our volunteer training sessions.
  • SafeHouse Center requires COVID vaccines for staff and volunteers, and all volunteer opportunities will be in-person, following all guidelines regarding social distancing and mask-wearing.  
  • We also will be holding virtual information sessions about our volunteer programs throughout the year. Upcoming dates are in December and January. We ask that you attend one of these sessions before applying for a volunteer program. Please check this page for upcoming dates and times.

We recognize that this work can be difficult and is not for everyone. SafeHouse Center’s volunteer interview and screening process include engaging with those who are in alignment with our core values and our goal of working toward ending all forms of oppression- including Racism, Sexism, Classism, Homophobia, Gender, Religious, Economic, and Institutionalized. In addition, we expect our volunteers to have a shared understanding of the beliefs, philosophy, and causes of domestic violence and sexual assault. We provide the training necessary to help expand knowledge on domestic violence and sexual assault. 

Please note that placement in the volunteer program is contingent upon many factors, including the application and interview process, successful completion of training, and adherence to all policies and procedures outlined in the position description, and our volunteer manual. Both placement and continued engagement of any volunteer is at the discretion of SafeHouse.

If not accepted into the program, community members will be provided with other local volunteer resources. 

In order to begin volunteering please begin the application process below. Note: Please read about the ENTIRE process before beginning your application. This process can take several weeks and we cannot accommodate all applicants due to capacity. We appreciate your patience during this process.

    • Direct Services Volunteer Application

       

      1. The Volunteer Coordinator will assign you to a specific direct service opportunity based on your rankings provided in the application.

      1. The Non-Direct Services volunteer program is accepting applications for the Community Awareness and Front Desk Receptionist program.

    • Teen Voice Application
      1. SafeHouse Center has temporarily suspended all Teen Voice programming. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Hoehner-Dane, our Volunteer, Intern and Speaker’s Bureau Coordinator at laurah@safehousecenter.org.
  3. SafeHouse Center will contact the references you provided in your application
  4. SafeHouse Center will complete all background checks via authorization on the application form.
    – Volunteers must clear background checks in order to move on
  5. Complete a screening interview with SafeHouse Center staff member 
  6. If you are selected for a volunteer position you must complete the required core training and specialized program training, which includes approximately 10 hours of videos that are a pre-requisite to the synchronous training. Click for the schedules and more details about the trainings.
