Amy Seavitt knows a little about strength and overcoming obstacles in the face of fear.
When you first meet her, you would never assume this soft-spoken, cheerful woman was also an avid mountain climber – someone who has already been to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and beyond. You would also never know that a few years ago a personal event would lead her to become a volunteer at SafeHouse Center.
“Because of my experience, I wanted to become more informed,” says Amy. “My volunteer training and time spent helping survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault was personally rewarding. I have always wanted to do more and this is my way of bringing awareness and providing support to survivors in my own community.”
In October of 2017, during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Amy will embark on another adventure to attempt to summit two peaks – Island Peak (Imja Tse) (6,189m/20,305ft) & Lobuche Peak (6,119m/20,070ft), in the Himalayas in Nepal.
Besides Amy’s individual fundraising efforts, she is asking community members to join her to help raise funds to support SafeHouse Center and to keep programs and services free of cost for survivors in our community.
