Sexual assault refers to sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the survivor. There are different forms of sexual assault including, attempted rape, fondling or unwanted sexual touching, forcing sexual acts or penetration also known as rape.
Survivors of both stranger rape and acquaintance rape often blame themselves for behaving in a way that encouraged the perpetrator. It’s important to remember that the victim is a never to blame for the actions of a perpetrator.
SafeHouse Center provides free and confidential services to survivors of sexual assault. These services include:
- 24-Hour Helpine (734) 995-5444
- 24-Hour Response Team that goes to local hospitals or jails to make contact with survivors
- Individual, short-term counseling is available to any survivor of sexual assault who is 14 years and older w/ parental consent, regardless of the age at which the assault occurred.
- SafeHouse’s Legal Advocates provide assistance and support to survivors of sexual assault as they engage with the criminal or civil legal system.
- Access to resources across the community.
