Partners in Justice

#MeToo

SafeHouse Center provides safety, support, advocacy and resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and their children. We serve close to 5,000 survivors annually who unfortunately have #MeToo stories of their own.

We find ourselves in a time that is not surprising to us. We were not shocked to read that 45% of all Facebook users have shared a personal story with #MeToo, and that in just two days after the Golden Globes there were already 3.5 million #TimesUp tweets.

This movement is incredible, but for us working daily to help survivors, not surprising. We see and hear these stories day in and day out, and have for over 40 years. As survivors feel empowered, it also means SafeHouse Center is busier than ever.

Our partnerships with police officers, lawyers, probation officers, judges and others committed to promoting safety and advocacy in Washtenaw County, allow us to work relentlessly to change the systems and attitudes that allow a culture of abuse to continue.

By working together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of survivors who live and work in our community.
