DESCRIPTION:Join SafeHouse Center Executive Director\, Barbara Niess-May\, and domestic violence survivor and speaker\, Nicole Beverly\, for a discussion and screening of the documentary\, “Til Death Do us Part.” The screening and discussion will be held at the Ann Arbor District Library on the 4th Floor in the Program Room.  \nThe documentary features Nicole Beverly’s story and was shown on CNN’s “Inside Evil” with Chris Cuomo. The synopsis is as follows: \nThree women a day are killed by a former or current husband or boyfriend. Nicole Beverly is desperately trying to avoid that fate. When she met her husband in college he was a football star and they were in love. She never imagined the relationship would turn violent and he would end up holding a gun to her head. Kevin is in prison for his violent attacks on her. Now his release date is coming up and a judge will decide if he should go free. Cuomo follows Nicole as she goes through the court system\, trying frantically to keep him behind bars. If he gets out\, she is convinced he will kill her…so she is prepared to go on the run and into hiding with her two sons. Cuomo goes inside the epidemic of intimate partner violence that can turn lethal for so many women. \nAfter the film\, a panel discussion will feature Ms. Beverly\, Ms. Niess-May and Arianne Slay (City of Ann Arbor Prosecutor)\, along with Eugene Rush (Sergeant with WCSO).  \nThis event is FREE and open to the public!

DESCRIPTION:Zingerman’s Roadhouse invites you to an epic evening on March 13th\, as we welcome Chef Molly Stevens for our 3rd Annual Jelly Bean Jump Up Fundraiser! Join us as we celebrate a talented woman in the culinary world while supporting SafeHouse\, a safe haven in Ann Arbor for all survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. \nDuring this event\, award-winning cookbook author and teacher Molly Stevens will share her expertise about two of the Roadhouse’s favorite cooking techniques\, roasting and braising. Molly has been described in the New York Times Book Review as “a beautifully clear writer who likes to teach”. Classically trained in professional kitchens in France\, Molly has directed programs and taught at the French Culinary Institute\, New England Culinary Institute\, and L’Ecole de Cuisine La Varenne in Burgundy\, France and Venice\, Italy. This year\, Chef Bob Bennett has coordinated with Molly to prepare mouthwatering dishes from her two James Beard Award-winning cookbooks\, All About Braising: The Art of Uncomplicated Cooking and All About Roasting: A New Approach to a Classic Art. Both books will be available for purchase at this unforgettable dinner.  \nWe will also be raising money for an amazing cause with the 3rd Annual Jelly Bean Jump Up. Ari Weinzweig started this fundraiser in honor of his beloved dog\, Jelly Bean\, who passed away in 2015. Ari wanted to turn sadness over his loss into something positive\, and created the Jelly Bean Jump Up fundraiser to contribute to SafeHouse. This year\, we will be offering a silent auction at this dinner\, and options for donations in addition to the ticket price.
