Crisis Intervention Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for day, evening and overnight shifts during the week and on weekends. The 40 hour crisis intervention training will take place over the weekends of October 8-10 AND October 22-24. We are currently accepting volunteer applications for:

  • Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT)
  • Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)
  • Shelter/HelpLine
  • Children & Youth
Click here for further information about these programs.

Special Overnight and Weekend Needs
Survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault need assistance 24 hours each day. Please consider these roles:

Overnight Shelter Volunteers
Needed to work from 6pm to midnight and/or midnight to 8 am
Volunteers will work with a shelter staff member or other trained volunteer; volunteers will be responsible for answering the 24 hour HelpLine and assisting residents as needed. These volunteers will participate in the Shelter/HelpLine training and then receive supplemental on the job training. Weekday and weekend overnight shifts are available.

Overnight Response Team Volunteers
Needed to be on call from 5pm-8am weeknights or 8am-8am on weekends.
These volunteers carry pagers and must be prepared to call or meet with survivors after an assault at any time during their shift. This is a great opportunity for night owls with flexible day time schedules. These volunteers will participate in the SART or DVRT training.

For further information please contact volunteer@safehousecenter.org or call 734-973-0242 x 252. Applications will be accepted until September 20th.

Behind the Scenes

Administrative Assistants
We are looking for dedicated volunteers to work behind the scenes at SafeHouse Center. Volunteers will be assigned to a program to do the valuable behind the scenes work that lets staff focus on survivors. Work will include data entry, typing, filing and projects such as identifying resources for survivors. This is a great way to find out how a non-profit works and how we seek out community support for our work. Skills required: Microsoft Office including excel, organizational skills and the ability to work independently.  Orientation will be provided. Volunteers will be asked to schedule a regular 3-4 hour shift each week during business hours (8a-5p)

Receptionists
As a volunteer receptionist you will greet visitors, thank donors and do light clerical tasks.  Training will be provided. This is a great way for community members to become involved in our work without having to complete the 40 hour crisis intervention training. Orientation will be provided. Receptionists are asked to make an ongoing weekly commitment (three to four hours) during regular business hours.

For more information or to sign up please contact volunteer@safehousecenter.org or call 734-973-0242 x 252.
