SAAM Open House

SafeHouse Center will be kicking off Sexual Assault Awareness Month SAAM Open House is open to the community and will include a survivor art display, “guest speakers”, and open mic for those who would like to share their poetry, music, or speak out about sexual assault. Refreshments will be served.
31st Anniversary Ann Arbor Take Back the Night Rally and March

Take Back the Night is an international rally and march that is organized in local communities with the purpose of unifying women, men, and children in an awareness of violence against women, children and families. The event is a collaboration of community and campus and other interested persons who are ready to take a stand against violence and make the night safe for everyone.
SAPAC Video Premiere: “A Common Voice”

In an effort to raise awareness and spark dialogue about the impact of sexualized violence within marginalized communities on college campuses, the Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center (SAPAC) created a video, "A Common Voice: Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence on Campus." It explores survivor reactions to relationship violence as experienced through a multicultural lens.
Eastern Michigan University: TBTN/Speakout

EMU Women's Center hosts the annual Take Back the Night march, rally and speakout to end violence against women. They will have an opportunity for survivors of sexual violence to share their stories, following the march around campus.
Brown Bag Training: Stalking

Information and discussion session will be conducted by Barbara Niess (Exec. Dir. SafeHouse Center) and Lore Rogers (Attorney), and will focus on stalking and the laws surrounding it.
Denim Day: Wear Denim to Raise Awareness
April 22nd
In 1998, an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans, reasoning she must have helped her attacker remove them. People all over the world were outraged. Wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
Let Awareness Ring: Ringing of the Bells at Kerrytown
April 25th, Saturday, 11:30am-12:00pm @ Ann Arbor, Kerrytown Farmers Market
SafeHouse Center will be ringing the bells every two and a half minutes between 11:30 am and 12:00 to represent the prevalence of sexual assault in America. SafeHouse will have an information and resource table available at the Farmers Market.
Teal T-Shirt Friday
