IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Counseling & Advocacy Services Coordinator
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory:
Education/Training/Experience: One year of experience in a relevant social justice or human services field
Experience/Abilities/Skills:
- Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills;
- strong leadership and teamwork skills;
- computer proficiency, including with MSW, Excel, Microsoft Office and email and internet functions;
- Knowledge of or experience working in the justice system, including the courts
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique circumstances of underserved populations and to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
Other Valued Education, Training, Experience, Abilities or Skills:
- Fluency in language(s) other than English
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Supervisory experience
- Public speaking experience
- A master’s degree in social work
- Legal or paralegal training
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Responsibilities
- Direct Services/Work in the Courts
- Assist with DV felony cases in a limited capacity.
- Carry a case load and attend an assigned court on a regular basis.
- Contact survivors before court to see if they have any questions, concerns or needs at that time.
- Contact survivors in court during court proceedings.
- Contact survivors after court when appropriate with information about the court hearing and to see if the survivor has any questions at that time.
- Maintain contact with survivors who have engaged with legal advocacy during the entire court process either through phone calls or letters.
- Provide crisis intervention, lethality assessment and safety planning with survivors of sexual assault and their children who are using the criminal justice or civil legal system, and were referred by law enforcement and/or who are referred by on-call teams and/or hospital emergency rooms or other healthcare providers.
- Act as a liaison between the survivor and the actors in the court system, including police, probation, prosecutors and judges (including, but not limited to, letters regarding bond conditions, violations of probation, civil stand-bys, issuance of charges, etc.).
- Provide specific information about the law, policies and practices of the criminal justice and civil justice system.
- Provide information about sexual assault, alcohol and drugs, community resources, options, etc. to survivors of sexual assault.
- Provide transportation to and from court hearings and other legal-related appointments for survivors as necessary and appropriate.
- Maintain records of court proceedings.
- When necessary, assist survivors with PPO preparation and paperwork.
- Participate in the rotation of daytime, evening, and weekend dispatch coverage for the 24 hour SART program and hospital accompaniment when a volunteer is not available.
- Assist with training new legal advocates.
- Assist with facilitating sexual assault support groups.
- Record Keeping
- Maintain case/call records and statistics as necessary and submit accurate data by stated deadlines.
- Maintain records of service participant contacts.
- Maintain records of all contacts related to service delivery (authorized phone calls to third parties, court contacts, etc.).
- Enter data into client database when necessary.
- Update case files regularly and thoroughly, following organizational procedures about file management.
- Staff Responsibilities
- Participate in regular supervision with the appropriate supervisor
- Attend team and staff meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet and assist people when they enter the public lobby.
- Participate in conferences, classes and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skill..
- Sign up for some holiday shifts during popular holiday times (most notably – but not necessarily limited to – the time around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s). Some limited holiday shifts will be required of all staff in order to keep our essential crisis intervention functions operational at all times throughout the year.
- Sign up for the required number of community education presentations, information tables or other outreach opportunities.
- Assist with special events when appropriate.
- Help to keep shared spaces orderly and take part in office-related light cleaning chores as assigned.
- Other tasks as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Responsibilities
- Direct Service
- Carry on-call beeper and provide on-call coverage during business hours on weekdays, on a rotating basis.
- Provide back-up on-call coverage (including evenings and weekends) when volunteers are not available.
- During on-call and follow-up contacts, provide crisis intervention, counseling, support, advocacy, information on legal rights and options, transportation, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children.
- Conduct follow-up telephone contacts after on-call team contacts as assigned.
- Provide information about battering, sexual abuse, parenting, alcohol and drug information, community resources, options, etc. to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children.
- Accessibility
- Respond to urgent calls, pages and electronic messages as quickly as possible, and to other less urgent communications in a timely fashion.
- Record Keeping
- Maintain records of all calls and all contacts with service participants and submit accurate data by stated deadlines.
- Maintain records of all contacts related to service delivery (authorized phone calls to third parties, court contacts, etc.).
- Process data as necessary.
- Enter data into client databases when necessary.
- Volunteer and Intern Management
- Provide a participatory role in the volunteer and intern training several times a year.
- Help to recruit and interview prospective volunteers.
- Plan and participate in volunteer appreciation and retention activities.
- Report volunteer hours and maintain files on active volunteers.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- All other tasks as assigned by the Response Team Coordinator
